Information Sheet: Marketing: The Product

Analyse your product carefully

Split it up into its component parts and list each element separately in a table.
Think about which audience segments are coming to what

Collecting Data

There are two types of data:-

Quantitative
  • How many, who, what where?
  • Results based on statistics, questionnaires or one to one interviews
  • Normal sample size for this kind of statistical analysis 100-500
Qualitative
  • How, why/why not?
  • Impressionistic analysis of words and behaviour
  • One to one interviews, focus groups, observation, experimentation
  • Small samples 1-100

Check if there is any secondary data

This is very important there because there is no point in doing a lot of research if something similar has already been done. Use the Internet to try to find existing useful data.

A useful starting point is the Association of Festival Organisers on: - www.newaudiences.org
