Information Sheet: Funding - Stage 5: Locate Funders
Once you have made a budget you can start looking for funders.
Think about where to go for it. Possible sources are:
- statutory bodies
- charitable trusts
- special funds, e.g. Telethon, BBC Children in Need
- businesses
- raise it yourselves
The next step is to draw up a list of potential funders. To do this, you will need to do some research. For example:
- Research potential funders
- Explore local networks
- Work in partnership with other local organisations
- Keep in touch with Community Funding officers at the District and County Councils
- Check funding websites regularly (see suggested sites in links section)
- Choose funders whose criteria the project fits
- Make contact before you prepare your application to ensure your project fits the funders' criteria
- Find out the funders' timetables or timescales for reply;
- State clearly where you hope to find all the funding.
