Information Sheet: Funding - Corporate Sponsorship

The Ten Commandments

The fundamental principle behind a good sponsorship deal is that it should be a symbiotic relationship - having mutual benefits for both partners

  1. Target your organisation carefully - do your research make sure that there is a connection between the company and your project
  2. Go to the right person - as high up as possible see them personally if you can
  3. Sell an entire package- this could include the usual things such as advertising in the programme and on banners or on a tent or the stage. This should also include free tickets perhaps/ reserved seats and/or parking a glass of wine souvenir programme etc. etc.
  4. Include corporate hospitality
  5. Know your audience - match up your audience to the sponsor. Perhaps think about just one element in some instances this may be easier than trying to think about the event as a whole.
  6. Tailor your pitch
  7. Set your proposal out in a simple and clear manner make sure that the amount you are asking for is all inclusive
  8. Deliver what you have promised
  9. Follow up - thank your sponsors, evaluate the project, send in a brief report you are more likely to retain the sponsor for the future. You would be surprised how many people just take the money and run. Sponsorship works better when a relationship is built up over a number of years
  10. Don't forget the little things. Check your grammar & spellings particularly names!
